It’s a literary term meaning “into the midst of things” and it’s always had a haunting, evocative quality to me.
I was thinking about writing, and all the things I want to write about, again this morning, as I do multiple times a day ~ opening lines, observations, ideas I want to share, things I want to say to the people I love, things I want to leave behind before I’m out of here someday. And every day that passes gets me closer to that day and yet I rarely seem to ever get around to actually writing down anything beyond the line that occurred to me, if that.
I think it’s, in part, because I want to do it like the Caterpillar told Alice: “begin at the beginning, go on until you come to the end. Then stop.”
The trouble with that is, which beginning? and even if I did, by the time I chose a beginning and slogged through all the back story I’d probably forget what it was I had started out to say, and you, if you’re reading this now, you would have stopped reading long before I got to the point. And who could blame you?
So, in medias res, it is ~ into the midst of things.
“All that we are arises with our thoughts. With our thoughts, we create the world.” — Buddha
Active belief is what creates and impacts your reality. This is true whether that belief is intentional or not. What you consistently think about and feel, what you actively believe, becomes real in the world ~ for good or ill.
The thing is I’m continuously seeing things, reading books, “happening upon” videos and so on, that reinforce these beliefs I already hold true from my own experience ~ a belief system I’ve acquired over years of that experience and time to reflect upon it. If you look back in my blog posts you’ll see me saying basically the same thing from the beginning: That what you consistently think about, talk about, and do something about is what comes about ~ in your mind, in your body, in your relationships, in your work, in your life. It’s all connected.
Wiser heads than mine hold to the same truth ~ many of them leaders in their field of endeavor, be it in the area of spirituality, science, success, medicine, personal development, physics, metaphysics, business, athletics, creativity, health, healing, work, art, and so on ~ and I’m going to be talking about a lot of them and what they have to say on this and a number of other subjects. Related subjects ~ because it’s all connected.
To begin (in medias res, remember), I’m going to recommend that you have a look at two books. First, a book I literally just began reading, entitled Mind to Matter: The Astonishing Science of How Your Brain Creates Material Reality by Dawson Church. The title pretty much says it all, and though I am an ink-and-paper kind of reader, especially of the kinds of books in which I will likely want to highlight passages and take notes, after reading the sample I downloaded, I bought this book as an ebook because Church includes links to other online resources at the end of each chapter. (You get the first one in the sample.)
In the sample, Mind to Matter links to an exercise in Quantum Touch that instructs in how you can tap into your heart energy and send it to “someone you know is suffering or in pain,” helping them to heal.
Finally, I’m also going to strongly suggest a book I read recently by Lynn McTaggart called The Power of Eight, and ask you to reflect on the concept of a group of compassionate, like-minded people focusing on the same positive thought, with the same compassionate healing intention, at the same time.
How powerful might that be in the world?

Thought, energy, intention ~ all elements of what I call active belief. That isn’t all I’m going to be talking about ~ not by half ~ but it’s a place to begin.
I realize that a lot of this may not make sense at this point. Just like when you start reading a novel, the most engaging of which begin in the midst of things, you don’t know at the beginning why the action taking place is taking place or how the characters got into this situation. It is the action that captures your attention and makes you want to know ~ you have to read on to find out.
This is me beginning in medias res ~ walking, in belief, into the midst of things.
